         RESTORING HOPE, RELEASING POTENTIAL

Greetings from House of Wells  Southern  Africa.   2016 was another year in which we experienced various challenges, but with the help of God we ended with great testimonies.   Below is a chronicle of events all of which point to the faithfulness of God.

 TESTIMONIES......
...Our first UNDER-GRADUATE!! - Glory to God for our Teenagers who passed their Matric (end of High School) exams in Dec 2016.  Two of our young men had fantastic grades which qualifies them for National Senior Certificate, they met the requirements for admission to Bachelor's degree etc.   Early in the year, we were able to connect one of them to an organisation that arranged a bursary for him.  In 2014, we began supporting him with his academics, buying textbooks, and paying for his Tutoring in Maths and Science; out of the limited funds coming in to H.O.W monthly.  In addition to H.O.W's assistance, a couple in England have also been supporting him, since 2013, with monthly groceries, school uniform and textbooks.  We are so thankful to God that all these have come to fruition. We want to support many more of our children at H.O.W in this way and more.  We need your help to do more.  House of Wells is not only about salvation of souls for heaven, we are also impacting the quality of their lives here on earth.  Here's Siphesande's testimony video which he recorded by himself to express his gratitude to House of Wells partners.   Apologies for the quality of the clip, which is due to a combination of the quality of his camera phone which and the low intensity of the light in his house.

...LIVES  TRANSFORMED....Significant changes in the behaviours of 3 children :-
  • In Kleinskool,  we saw tremendous change in a young girl (E.M), who at the beginning of this year when she started at H.O.W, was very unruly and disruptive.  She also lacked self confidence and had mood swings.  During our routine home visit, we discovered that her mom was struggling with alcohol abuse, which may have explained her emotional shut down and detachment.  Her father passed away some years ago.  Three months ago we noticed she has started to be calmer and would volunteer to help out during our lessons.  Gradually, she began to gain confidence and stand in front of the class to answer questions or do role-plays.  Her school also confirmed that she started to get involved in various school activities and competitions.
  • In Walmer Centre  - we have a boy (B.B), who also used to be aggressive and insensitive to other kids in the class.   We ended the year with a kind and well-mannered boy.
  • New Brighton Centre  - another boy (L.G) used to always cause disturbance during lessons in our Ben Sinuka Centre.  His school teacher informed us that his rebelliousness can sometimes be quite severe - very defiant, talks back and very loud.  Now, all glory to God, we have a boy who respects authority, co-operates, interacts and participates at House of Wells as well as in his school.
In addition to praying for these children intensely and consistently, we worked with each one using different tactics as The Lord directed, whilst at the same time showing them love and care.  Sometimes, it could be speaking, encouraging or motivating them, other times it's using concise instructions, carefully thought through rewards and/or a reprimand.  Cautiously structured and managed methods have been productive and we've found that giving them some sort of responsibilities, like helping our staff to serve at meal times, assisting to take the register or standing in front of class to take names of anyone mis-behaving, also work.

...PROMOTION - All our grade 7's passed their exams in December and will be starting High School in Jan 2017.

...H.O.W children sweep up School AWARDS - We are so proud of these two H.O.W. Teenagers who received several awards & trophies at their School's Awards Presentation Evening.  Elzonia Potgieter - HEAD GIRL and Best Student in her year, came first in all subjects and walked away with all the trophies!   Afton Hiles - also received various awards - for Maths, English, Life Orientation, Creative Arts & Afrikaans.

2016 CHRISTMAS PARTIES...
In Port Elizabeth, the Teenagers' party was held on 26th Nov 2016, the U-13s party was on 3rd Dec, which was the same day as the Christmas party in Cape Town.  H.O.W Zimbabwe had their party on the 10th Dec.  Across the 2 countries the contents of the hampers we gave to the children varied from rice, bread, cereal, baked beans, Noodles, various food items to crisps, drinks, toys, stationery (mathematical sets, notebooks) etc.

A very BIG thank you to everyone who donated towards the 1700 food hampers for our children.  We disciple these children in the word of God and attend to their physical needs (material, feeding, medical and educational needs) all year round, so this end-of-year party and the food hampers they take home is just the cherry on the cake.  We are especially grateful to the following churches, each of which donated food hampers for at least 100 children - City Chapel London, The Liberty Church London, Charis Christian Centre London, Trinity Chapel London and RCCG Bethel London.

TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED - You've been a blessing to over 1000 young children in PE, 160 teenagers in PE, 400 children in Cape Town and 104 in Zimbabwe.  As you have been involved in making sure these children's prayers were answered during Christmas, may God answer your prayers also.  You've been generous to the hungry, you have shown mercy to the poor, fought the cause of the needy, helped to loosen their burden and brought joy to less fortunate children, we pray that the promises of God will be fulfilled in your lives in Jesus' name.  God will open doors for you where there are seemingly none, HE will guide you always, provide for your every need and strengthen your frame, in Jesus' name. Thanks again! God bless you richly and exceedingly!
It was such a wonderful atmosphere to see the children receiving the Christmas hampers.   For some it was the only Christmas gift they received last year.

Andre Spence's Visit - October 2016
Andre Spence founder and presenter of #ViralAdventure - 'life-changing adventures' based in the U.K. visited House of Wells South Africa on the 12th October.  In a bid to make a difference and add purpose to the work he does, Andre spoke to his friend, Wiliam Adoasi, who introduced him to HOUSE OF WELLS.   William is the founder of Vitae London, the watch company that has been blessing House of Wells' children with school uniforms for over a year now.  Andre said he was inspired to incorporate this kind of impact into some adventures he was planning, so he contacted us at House of Wells to find out more.  After hearing about the work that House of Wells does, Andre decided he would commit his life to creating entertainment & adventures that change lives, especially those of disadvantaged children.  He visited 2 of our Centres and blessed over 40 children with full sets of uniforms! We pray that God will continue to bless the work of his hands and enlarge his territories, in Jesus' name. It was a blessing to see the joy on the children's faces.  There were tears of joy from 2 brothers, age 7, when they were given their new school shoes by Andre, as they used to walk barefoot  to school.  One brother said to the other "it feels so nice now that we have a pair of shoes on".  Everyone  in the room was emotional.  Thank you Andre!!

CENTRES UPDATE (PE, CT & Zim)...
PORT  ELIZABETH (12 Centres1220 children/youth attending)  - God continues to use H.O.W. to bring positive change in the various Schools we use for our Enrichment Centres.  School staff and principals are astounded as to how our programmes and activities have brought improvements in the behaviour of the children and the situations in their Schools.  The relationship with the school principals and the teachers remains excellent and communication is great.  We're still leading the School Assemblies at selected Schools every month.  Many children's lives are being transformed spiritually, academically and in their conducts, see TESTIMONY section above.
Academically, 2016 was a great year for H.O.W kids, as more kids received awards and trophies this year than ever before (see photos above).  Some school teachers visited our Centres during Oct. and Nov. to see how the H.O.W programme is making so much progress and changes in children.
We are very much committed to praying for House of Wells children's families for healing, employment and other prayer requests the children bring.  Sometime in October, a parent came to thank us for praying for her while she was in hospital and she said she believed her healing came at the exact time that our staff and the children were praying for her at our centre.  Glory to God!

HOW CAPE TOWN (3 Centres, 400 kids)
  • Children at Nyanga 1 (Mau-Mau) have consistently shown excellent commitment throughout the year, reaching out to other children within that community. This is a reflection of the impact H.O.W is having on them.
  • Trusting God for a bigger venue in 2017 at Nyanga 2 as the number of kids attending have increased by a third this quarter.
  • We are working with the school at our Centre in Imbasa to launch a road safety awareness for school children, as a few children have been involved in accidents because the school is situated along one of the busiest roads in Crossroads, Cape Town.
HOW ZIMBABWE (1 Centre in Zim with approx 100 children) - In Zimbabwe, a total of 104 children attend our Enrichment programme, 35 of which are teenagers. Through various coaching sessions this year, our teenagers have tremendously improved in various skills, from presentation skills, to poetry, drama and music among others.  Our career guidance and "Vision For The Future" lessons have also been helpful to some of our Matric students in choosing what they want to embark on after leaving High School. The number of younger children attending the centre have increased this year and it's amazing what the Lord is doing in their lives.  We are seeing great improvement in reading, retention of information and the ability to speak publicly and with confidence.
HOW Zimbabwe ended the year on a high note, by successfully securing the venue for our second Centre which will be starting in the first quarter of 2017.

House of Wells YOUTH ....
Prayer is one of the things we are mandated by God to teach at H.O.W.  Our teenagers are taught and encouraged to pray, and to trust in the faithfulness of the God that answers prayers.  We implore them to pray for one another, for their families, their community etc; and now they are able to pray with confidence trusting to receive what they ask in prayer.  There were some amazing moments this quarter when the teenagers experienced special visitation of the Holy Spirit.  Recently, one of the Schools where we hold our programmes was under attack and we asked our Youth to pray.  The attack stopped, chains were broken and things returned to normal!

House of Wells teenagers stand out in their different schools, always exuding good character and conduct.  They are, therefore, always the ones selected to participate in special activities and roles in their schools. We believe this is because they have been taught good values based on the word of God as their foundation.  Many of them also received academic awards and trophies in November.  At one school the Head Girl (who received highest number of awards) and the second best achiever were both H.O.W teenagers.  Our goal is to restore hope and to release potential in the lives of our young people.

Home Visits
Of all this quarter's home visits, 4 stand out.  Oyama Hola, 10 - who we prayed for, received healing.  Sanadayo's and Anton's family - who were really grateful for the groceries, school uniforms and the shoes given to their children.  Anelisa Mayekiso's mother was happy that she was the one who won the House of Wells award for talent show at the Christmas party.  She said she's never won anything before, and so was very grateful!!  The voucher she won went towards much needed food and clothes for her and her siblings.
